Thermostat services — Aurora, CO
"No power to the red wire"? We speak thermostat.
REPAIR TBD · SMART INSTALL TBD · DIAGNOSTIC TBD
That's a real thing a real caller said — and it's one of the most common thermostat failures we see. Dead displays, phantom readings, systems that won't listen: diagnosed properly, fixed fast.
80011 · Oct 2026 — thermostat diagnosis
What's included
Thermostat diagnosis, done like engineers.
- Full low-voltage circuit test — R, C, W, Y, G wires checked with a meter, not guessed at
- "No power" diagnosis — float switch, blown fuse, transformer, or breaker: we find the actual break
- Thermostat replacement — standard programmable, installed and calibrated: TBD
- Nest / ecobee smart install — wiring verified before you buy, C-wire solutions, app setup: TBD
- System compatibility check — heat pump? Two-stage furnace? We confirm the stat can actually run your equipment
- Written quote before work — the written-quote guarantee applies to a thermostat swap like a full furnace replacement
Symptom guide
What your thermostat is telling you.
- Blank / dead display
- Usually lost 24V power — float switch tripped by a clogged drain, blown fuse, or dead batteries. Rarely the thermostat itself.
- "No power to R wire"
- The red wire carries power to the stat. Breaks happen at the float switch, the fuse on the control board, or the transformer.
- System won't respond
- Could be the stat, could be the equipment ignoring it. We test both sides before replacing anything.
- Temperature wrong by 5°+
- Bad location (sun, drafts), failing sensor, or calibration drift. Sometimes the fix is moving it, not replacing it.
- Short cycling
- Often a thermostat anticipator/placement issue — but we rule out equipment causes first.
Smart thermostats
Nest and ecobee, installed right.
The #1 smart-thermostat failure: no C-wire, so the stat steals power and the system acts possessed. Big-box installation guides skip this. We don't.
- Wiring verified before you buy — send us a photo of your current wiring or we'll check on site
- C-wire solutions — new wire run, or a listed adapter where appropriate (we'll tell you which)
- Equipment-matched setup — staging, heat-pump balance points, and fan settings configured for your system
- App setup and walkthrough — schedules, geofencing, and energy reports explained before we leave
Call us first with your system type. A 5-minute conversation can save you from buying a $250 thermostat your furnace can't power.
Process
Four steps, same as everything we do.
Book
Call or request online. Thermostat calls are usually same-day or next-day.
Diagnose
Meter on the wires, eyes on the equipment. We find the actual failure — stat, wiring, or equipment.
Approve
Written quote: TBD range depending on repair vs. replacement. You sign before we touch a wire.
Fixed
Installed, calibrated, tested through full heat and cool cycles. App set up for smart installs.
FAQ
Thermostat questions.
What does "no power to the red wire" mean?
The R (red) wire carries 24V power to your thermostat. "No power" almost always traces to a tripped float switch (clogged condensate drain), a blown low-voltage fuse on the control board, or a failed transformer — all quick, inexpensive fixes once properly diagnosed.
How much does thermostat replacement cost?
TBD for a standard programmable installed; TBD for Nest/ecobee smart installs with wiring verification and app setup.
Can you install a Nest or ecobee on my older furnace?
Usually yes — but older systems often lack a C-wire, which smart thermostats need. We'll verify your wiring before you buy anything and handle the C-wire properly.
My thermostat screen is blank. Is it dead?
Probably not — a blank screen usually means lost power, not a dead thermostat. Check the breaker and batteries first; if it's still dark, the float switch or fuse is the likely culprit. Call us and we'll trace it.
